An Eaton truck driver was killed in a traffic crash at a Perth intersection on Thursday afternoon.

Alan Arthur Simpson, 61, was driving a Carbone Bros truck, which was carrying limestone, when it collided with a Lexus sedan at the intersection of Moylan and Wattleup roads in Wattleup, south of Perth.

The crash caused the truck and the trailer to roll over, spilling its limestone load and burying the car.

Firefighters, St John Ambulance paramedics and police officers were at the crash.

Police said Mr Simpson, 61, died at the scene and an 80-year-old man and his 81-year-old wife, who were in the Lexus, were seriously injured.

Firefighters rescued the couple from the car before they were taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

Wattleup resident Radje Dragovich was in the kitchen of his house near the intersection when he heard a loud crash.

"I heard 'bang, bang' and thought it was unusual," he said.

"I saw the truck overturned and dust over the car.

"They couldn't do anything because the car was badly smashed and buried with sand up to the window."

The crash is being investigated by major crash detectives who are seeking witnesses to determine its cause.

The passengers of the car remain in a critical condition in hospital.
