Picnics go hand in hand with summer and fun but a series of picnics at Withers are aimed at achieving more than a feed.

Friday is the final chance to enjoy a sausage sizzle or picnic dinner at Picnic in the Park at Withers Library.

The events were aimed at increasing a feeling of community in the suburb by encouraging people to meet their neighbours.

Hosted by the Milligan Community Learning Centre and South West Development Commission, the picnics have attracted 90 people across two nights.

Milligan assistant manager Renae Bernardi said the picnics had succeeded in getting people out of their homes and socialising without spending big amounts of money.

"It's about building community and getting people together from diverse backgrounds," she said.

Kate Kelly, also from Milligan, said the event showed people a fun night out did not need to be expensive.

"You can loan picnic kits from the Withers Library," Ms Kelly said.

The kits include retro games and everything required for a picnic other than food.

Games, music and a sausage sizzle are provided.
