SW stars keen to hit AFL big time
It's a long way from the South West Football League to the MCG, but that is the dream footballers Connor Blakely and Ethan Hughes are hoping to accomplish when they find out tonight if they will begin their AFL careers.
Blakely is expected to have his name called at the 2014 NAB AFL Draft when it is hosted on the Gold Coast, while Hughes is a chance after late interest from clubs.
The Swan Districts footballers will be in Perth with family and friends, nervously waiting in front of the TV to see which team takes a punt on them and gives them a chance to begin their dreams.
Blakely said he did not mind which club he went to as long as he got his chance in the big league.
“Just getting drafted is the main thing — it’s the industry we’re in, you can’t pick and choose,” he said.
