Bulldogs give Hawks a drubbing

The fire power of the Bunbury Bulldogs was too explosive for the Hawks as they thumped a fledgling Augusta-Margaret River by exactly 14 goals at Gloucester Park on Saturday afternoon.

Bulldogs’ forwards Marc Re and Aiden Parker were dynamic in drubbing the Hawks 21.7 (133) to 7.7 (49), booting five goals each.

A fiercely fought first quarter produced a shootout with 13 goals scored.

Hawk Cody Miller opened the scoreboard and bagged two for the quarter.

Midfielder Daniel Payne started in blinding form and human highlight reel Hamish Shepheard converted from two spectacular marks and finished the term with a third goal.

Bulldogs’ Re kicked consecutive goals while skipper Jesse Gribble chimed in with one and was instrumental in helping ruck man Jacob Williams to get his first.

By the end of the opening stanza the Bulldogs outside run became visibly too hard to handle for the Hawks and forced their forwards to push up the ground and defend.

The second term commenced with Hawks’ Jordan Oakes providing Mitch Payne his second goal and their teams last for the match.

Bunbury then manufactured their best team football with Jordan Adamson-Holmes, Clint Garlett, Trent Gribble and Glen Howison linking up from full back to full forward to give Re his third.

Half time offered insufficient solace for the Hawks as the rain and the pain of the Bulldogs onslaught set in.

Despite slippery conditions the Bulldogs managed six goals for the quarter with Jesse Gribble kicking two of them.

The Hawks injected Shepheard into the ruck to add some spark but severely depleted their forward line by doing so.

Team mates Miller, Ben Gerrans, Asher Samelko and defender Richard Devitt battled on valiantly for no avail.

The Bulldogs enjoyed junk time in the final term to pile on another five goals against the wilting Hawks.

Parker opened with two and a spearing pass from Ash Eades gave Matt Greco and the Bulldogs some additional icing before Dylan Partridge topped off a satisfying win for the visitors who remain top of the ladder.
