Give a damn and donate a can

The Bunbury-Leschenault Rotary Club has urged people to donate generously to the 20th annual Give a Damn, Give a Can food drive this year as tough economic times place strain on family budgets.

Bunbury-Leschenault Rotarian Matt Granger said it was important the community does what it can to help the less fortunate in times of financial hardship.

“We have to recognise the economic conditions are reasonably tight and we understand it can make a difference to those for whom having a meal can be a challenge, ” Mr Granger said.

The Salvation Army and the Intown Centre will benefit from this year’s collection of non-perishable food items, with both charities relying heavily on the annual campaign.

Intown Centre board chairman David Bailey said the centre would struggle to provide meals for the homeless and those struggling to make ends meet.

“It is the largest single donation of food we receive each year, ” he said.

Greater Bunbury residents are encouraged to leave non-perishable food items and tinned food in plastic bags on top of or beside their letterboxes for collection on May 4.
