Jolly has the jump in cup standings

Lake Kununurra Golf Club's popular Summer Cup competition drew a big field at the weekend, with players getting their cards in early to avoid a predicted afternoon storm.

With just four weeks now remaining, Craig Jolly is still the man to beat. He is well out in front with a total score of 243 from his six best rounds.

Scott Day and Matthew Stubbs appear the most likely candidates to unseat Jolly, but they sit a fair way back in the mid-230s.

The handicapped Stableford competition, which has been running since November, gives players of all abilities the chance to feature in the prizes.

The competition involves players submitting a card on Saturday for either nine or 12 holes, with their best six cards up until March 21 determining the winner.

Players can play their round anytime on Saturday before 5.30pm for a $10 fee, and can play as many weeks as they like before the competition ends.

Wet season conditions are often tougher than during the middle of the year because there is less run as heavy rain softens the fairways.

The conclusion of the Summer Cup will usher in the club's annual Open Day Ambrose competition.
