New recruits impress club

Cable Beach’s Richie Dooner takes a mark.

Cable Beach Football Club recorded a pre-season win over Pilbara side Dampier Sharks last month at Haynes Oval, with existing and new players relishing the chance to get a run before the West Kimberley Football League starts.

A final score of 17.14 (116) to 8.5 (51) reflected the hosts' dominance, however striking up combinations and complementing the players' fitness was the goal, according to coach Graeme Hastie.

"It was a good game played in the right spirit and it was great to get a fixture so early in pre-season," he said.

"The Sharks have been training since December, while we have only been back at it since February so it was good for our fitness."

Hastie singled out seasoned stars Jordan King, Jo and Sonny Dann as having good games, but also said a number of new faces made an impact.

Boyd Green, Kielen Davey, Mike Hennessy and Daniel Cox were all players that would add to the club's dynamic this season.

Cable Beach relinquished their WKFL crown to an impressive and extremely mobile Looma Eagles outfit last season, but Hastie said the club's new players would add required pace.

"The new guys will add real pace to our team and we will be playing a different brand of football this season," he said.

Cable Beach president Mick Albert said the club hoped to make the pre-season fixture against the Pilbara side a yearly event.
