Woman attacked by shark near Denmark

A woman has been treated after a shark attack near Denmark.

The 37-year-old woman was surfing at Ocean Beach near the Denmark Surf Club with her husband when she was knocked off her surfboard by what was believed to be a shark.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said the woman sustained scratches and grazes on her hands and was treated at the local hospital and later released. The injuries were not thought to have been inflicted by the shark.

Department of Fisheries experts examined damage to her board and said it was likely to have been caused by a shark, although the size and species could not be determined.

Fisheries officer will monitor the beach and assess reported sightings over the next few days.
