Alleged frauds spark police warning

Esperance police are investigating several cases of fraud after a man allegedly approached businesses and lied in the hope of obtaining money.

Business owners have been warned to exercise caution when people request cash in the wake of the recent incidents.

It is alleged a man attended several local shops in the town and asked for financial assistance under the guise of what police believe were false pretences.

On more than one occasion, the man was allegedly able to obtain money using his story.

Police are unable to disclose further details, but believe the man approached at least five different businesses.

Acting Senior Sergeant Craig Mellors asked the business community to be on its guard and to report any suspicious behaviour.

The man who approached the businesses is described as about 180-185cm tall, fair skinned, with a medium build, crew cut brown hair and sleeve tattoos on both arms.

It is understood he is left handed and speaks with an Australian accent.

Esperance police believe the man may be able to assist with the investigation and have asked anyone with information to contact the station on 9079 8999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
