Welcome home

The words “Ngul-la-bith-tha nug-goo ngul-lee-ba ngooda” – “welcome to our home” mark the entrance to the Hannans-based disability support home.

Officially opened yesterday by Minister for Disability Services Helen Morton, this six-bedroom home will accommodate up to six middle-aged people with disability.

Previously, the residents lived in aged care homes because there were no age-appropriate facilities available for them in the city.

Five residents were originally to move into the home, but one recently passed away.

In his opening address, Goldfields Individual Family Support Association chief executive Neville Grimson became emotional when he spoke of the woman’s passing.

“I’m incredibly upset that she never quite got here,” he said.

“But I am thankful to her family for coming and celebrating this opening.”
