Young designers showcase creations

Six young designers were chosen to represent Esperance in the State finals of the Apex Australian Teenage Fashion Awards after impressing the judges with their outstanding creations on Saturday night.

In front of a full house at the Esperance Civic Centre, Naomi Halls won the casual wear category, Danica Van den Bogert, Katie Beros and Sara Oorschot won the formal wear category and Eleanor McCleave and Lea Passeck won the wearable art category.

A total of 21 students designed and modelled 26 outfits in the three categories, wowing the audience with a colourful and creative selection. It was the third year the competition has been held in Esperance.

The six winners will compete in the State finals at the Hyatt Regency grand ballroom on September 23.

Designer Teal Harris thanked the Apex club, textile teacher Ann Chambers and everyone associated with the competition for giving the students an opportunity to showcase their work.

She said it was the highlight of their design year and gave them a goal to work towards.
