Dominant double for Walsh

Geraldton City Speedway crowned a new series of Mid West champions for 2014-15 after two nights of hectic racing over last weekend.

One of the stronger performances came from sedan driver Jason Walsh, who won titles in both the street stock and production championship in his dual-registered Falcon.

Walsh had some strong opposition in the street stock ranks, holding on to defeat Mason Fenner and Nathan O’Brien.

In the production sedans, he capitalised on engine problems for leader Richard Baker and went on to win from Dean Davidson and Jason Whitehead.

Supermods had the most cars and drivers over the weekend and produced some great racing.

Kevin Taylor took the championship win, which doubled as the Easter Cup.

He was chased home by Aaron Short and Neil Kristiansen.

Consistency in finishing paid dividends for Ken Henderson, his sixth place enabling him to win the inaugural Geraldton Supermod Series.

A good field of local limited sprintcars again turned on the action, with Robbie Stephens proving too strong in the 20-lap championship final, leading home Anthony Gaudio and Rob Garraway.

The West Coast Speedcar club travelled to Geraldton for Easter and were responsible for the most spectacular accident of the weekend when Chris Davies flipped his car several times coming out of turn four. He was uninjured in the accident.

Meanwhile, Kevin Myles had a totally dominant meeting, winning all his heats and the championship final.

Alan Meakins was second and Dennis Sparnon third.

Super six sedans turned on some good racing, with young Bradley Craig proving too strong for his challengers, which remarkably included both his mother Belinda and his father CJ.

In the 15-lap championship race, Bradley led home Lyndon Morley and mother Belinda.

The Geraldton super sixes head to Moora next weekend to contest the State championship.

Junior sedan racing brought out the best in the under-17s, with Rohan Thomas taking a popular win in the All Stars.

Mitchell Baker drove home in second, with Joshua Ahearn nabbing third.

In the higher-ranked Top Star Juniors, Ashley Baker continued on his winning way, leading the final for every lap.

Shannon Marsden and Brad Short had a good battle for second until Short was judged to have made unnecessary contact with Marsden’s car, leaving her stalled on the track.

Dominic Rifici, who was racing behind the pair, crashed into the back of Marsden’s Charade.

Rifici was unable to continue, while Short was relegated several positions.

The resumption of the race saw Baker easily take the win over Marsden, with Jack Dalton taking third.

The next meeting at Geraldton City Speedway is on Saturday, April 18. It is the last meeting of the season and includes a demolition derby. It starts at the earlier time of 3pm.
