Startled burglar's unlucky break

A youth who fractured both wrists after jumping out the window of a house, having been disturbed by the owner’s dog, has pleaded guilty to burglary with intent.

The 16-year-old from Yalgoo appeared in the Geraldton Children’s Court today after being charged over the incident, which occurred at 4.20am on February 26 in Elizabeth Street.

He was identified through forensic tests of blood found at the scene.
The court was told the youth had entered the yard of the residence and spotted a handbag on the kitchen table.

He climbed a wall to a partially-open window three metres above the ground to gain entry.

Surprised by the dog, he fled through the same window, falling to the ground and fracturing both wrists.

He appeared in court with dressings from his hands to his elbows.

Magistrate Donna Webb remanded the youth in custody to March 15 for a pre-sentence report.
