Alleged brawl leads to lockout of venues

An alleged brawl led to the lockout of several licensed venues in Geraldton last night.

Police allegedly witnessed the brawl in the main bar of Breaker's Tavern about 8pm while carrying out a routine licensed premises check.

Police allege during the incident a male crowd controller was repeatedly punched to the face by a patron.

It is also alleged two police officers were assaulted by patrons while trying to break up fights and disperse the crowd.

The crowd controller and a police officer suffered minor injuries.

As a preventative measure police then organised a lockout of all licensed venues in the area.

Police have charged a 21-year-old Spalding man with assault and obstructing a police officer in relation to the incident.

Two other men, a 22-year-old Waggrakine man and a 18-year-old Moresby man, have been charged with obstructing police.

All three will appear before court at a later date.

Police are still investigating the incident and reviewing CCTV footage.
