Officer takes aim at youth crime

A new youth liaison officer for Geraldton police says community groups should form ranks and reach out to the city’s troubled youth.

First Const. Glenn Wishart has been appointed as the spearhead of a police campaign to reduce juvenile crime.

He is one of 20 officers assigned to the recently-established Youth Policing Division throughout metro and regional Australia.

First Const. Wishart was introduced to non-profit youth groups and agencies at the City of Greater Geraldton’s latest specialised workshop to tackle youth crime last Thursday.

He said there was no shying away from the issue, but was confident the groups could tackle it head-on.
