Plenty of talk about GABS

The mouth gets dry, tongues tingle and taste buds cry to be satisfied.

The Great Australasian Beer Spectapular is around the corner. And the list of brews is out, causing great angst by aficionados who can’t get their lips on them … yet.

GABS 2015 kicks off in Melbourne on Friday week. It will feature around 120 beers never produced by the respective breweries before.

It prompts great experimentation from beer gurus located here and abroad.

As The Sip is based on the west coast of the brown land it was appropriate to take a look at a few of the WA exhibitors. After all, some of the best brewers come from these parts.

Eleven Sandgroper operations will take part, including Bootleg Brewery from near Margaret River.

The Bootleg team are delivering a Chai Milk Stout, which, at 5.5 per cent, is considered 'moderately challenging' on the GABS degree of difficulty chart.

Brewer Ryan Nilsson-Linne admits it was easy to combine the two key elements.

“I’ve been trying my own chai tea at home and I’ve never done a milk stout before so it seemed natural to put the two together for GABS,” said Nilsson-Linne.

The Bootleg crew promise the Chai Milk Stout will have plenty of sweetness.

The other WA brewers at GABS 2015 are –
Cheeky Monkey – Death Dancer (Black RIPA)
Colonial – Project #13 (Belgian Strong Ale)
Duckstein – The Marsellus Wallace (Porter)
Eagle Bay – Black and Tannin (Specialty IPA)
Feral – Eurovision Train Wreck (Specialty Beer)
Homestead – Velvet (Sour Beer)
Indian Ocean – Mumme (Altbier)
Monk – Oakey Dokey (Double IPA)
Nail – Flamington Lamington (Sweet Stout)
Naked Monkey – Lamington (Porter)

GABS 2015 runs from Friday May 22-24 in Melbourne and May 30 in Sydney.
