Hawkins on the wild side

On Tuesday, all eyes were on supermodel Miranda Kerr as she stole the show at the David Jones fashion launch in Sydney, but today the attention will be turned to her rival - former Miss Universe winner and Myer ambassador Jennifer Hawkins.

The 28-year-old stunner is expected to turn heads when she takes to the runway during Myer's highly anticipated 2012/2013 spring-summer fashion launch.

With a mix of bold, pop and pastel colours, eye-catching prints and floral designs unveiled at the DJs launch - expected to hit its department stores across the country this season - Hawkins told AAA shoppers could expect a similar array of styles from Myer.

"Pastel colours are definitely in and Nicola Finetti showcases his collections with some beautiful cocktail dresses that are blues and baby pinks, and floral prints is another massive trend," she said. "But one thing that I'm really loving is the clashing of prints - psychedelic prints all mashed together. I think that's fresh and it's now."

WA designers Morrison, Aurelio Costarella and Ellery are also set to shine at the launch, with a number of their pieces already making it on to Hawkins' wish list.

"Some of my favourite designers are actually from WA - they're strong within the designers that are being showcased," she said.

"One of (Ellery's) dresses is my favourite which I'll be wearing, it's actually black and it's buttoned all the way to the neck, like a feminine tuxedo dress in a way. It's very sexy, I really like it.

"Aurelio Costarella is another of my favourites, his collection is cream throughout, it's very feminine, embroidered and I just love it."

Also showcased in the parade are pieces that recently featured in Myer's fashion campaign, which saw Hawkins and fellow Myer ambassador Kris Smith jet off to South Africa and take part in a risque photo shoot alongside wild animals.

"It all focused on South Africa, the surroundings, shooting with wild, unpredictable animals, which was crazy," Hawkins said.

"The catwalk and the whole set pulls back to (South Africa) so it has that theme, it's amazing. Each designer got a piece of fabric from South Africa and they had to design their own piece that we showcase, so that's the opener, I'm wearing Toni Maticevski. So it's really cool."

But despite the media hype surrounding the "rivalry" between David Jones and Myer, Hawkins insists there is no animosity between to two retailers.

"We just run our own race, it doesn't even weigh on my mind," she said.
