Fumes force street lockdown

A home owner has been treated for suspected chemical exposure after breathing in fumes at a St James property he rents out.

It is believed the man had gone to check on the tenant at the Norman Street home and identified a strong chemical smell when he went into a back shed.

Authorities have set up a 70m exclusion zone around the property and the police organised crime squad’s chemical operations team are trying to identify the chemical liquids.

Authorities were called to the street about 10.40am. St John Ambulance treated the home owner at the scene.
