Swan 'astounded' by sex addict headline

Chrissie Swan says she's been the victim of "media terrorism" instilling fear in women who talk openly about their life.

The 41-year-old received calls from radio stations after a joke she made about having "borderline sex addiction" in her late 20s made headlines.

Swan made the comment, which she said was obviously a joke, during a 40-minute podcast interview for online magazine Show and Tell.

It was said as she talked about having numerous sexual partners after breaking up with a long-term boyfriend.

The Logie winner says the media attention around the comments has "astounded" her.

"Women can't make a joke about anything for fear of being taken out of context?" she says in a letter posted to the magazine website.

"Stories like this are a form of media terrorism, instilling fear in women who have stories to tell and laughs to share."

"News flash: women have a few sexual partners before they find the one they settle down with," she says.

"We were joking about those heady days of idiot one night stands and frivolous fun."

The experience has made her want to "shut up and never make a joke or divulge any amusing anecdote".

"I fear a world of vanilla presenters wanting to avoid the humiliation of being taken out of context," she said.

"But that's the way we're going."
