Pop megastar Taylor Swift has dumped Perth from next year's 1989 World Tour in favour of Adelaide, which was left off the Australian leg of last year's Red Tour.

Australian promoter Michael Gudinski, who made the decision with the US singer's management, said it is not possible to play both cities.

"Taylor's management and I felt that Adelaide shouldn't miss out again," he said.

"It's as simple as this - Adelaide missed out on the (Red) tour, Perth misses out this time."

Swift will become the biggest name to shun WA since the Perth Arena opened in November 2012.

The Grammy Award-winning singer, who turns 25 this month, kicks off her Australian dates at Sydney's ANZ Stadium on November 28 with shows following in Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne.

Swift is scheduled to play the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on December 7 to an audience unlikely to exceed 10,000 fans.

Her excellent Perth concert at nib Stadium on December 11 last year pulled in nearly 22,000 fans and grossed $2.8 million according to US Billboard magazine.

Mr Gudinski said that with three days needed to set up production for her massive outdoor concerts in Brisbane and Melbourne either side of the Adelaide indoor date, there wasn't enough time to bring Swift back to Perth.

The promoter behind recent Perth Arena concerts from the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen said New Zealand was also going to miss out on hosting the hottest pop star in the world "at this stage".

On the Speak Now World Tour in 2012, the hard-working musician played both Perth and Adelaide.

Swift opened that visit at the Burswood Dome to more than 15,000 fans and grossed $2.2 million before playing to 8500 fans at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre to gross $1.27 million.

The announcement of the 1989 World Tour, named after her chart-topping fifth album, follows hot on the heels of the Red Tour, which finished in Singapore in June.

Swift is due to hit the road in Tokyo next May, before touring through North America, Europe and the UK until October 31.

Melbourne singer-songwriter Vance Joy is a special guest on the Australian dates, as well as many of the 65 previously announced overseas shows.

Swift boasts the No. 1 single and album in Australia this week, with Blank Space on top for the second consecutive week and platinum-selling 1989 album returning to pole position.
