Carnegie Wave Energy chief Michael Ottaviano and Northern Star Resources boss Bill Beament are among this year's regional winners of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

Mr Ottaviano took out the emerging category at Crown Perth last night while Mr Beament was honoured in the industry category. The duo were named alongside Instant Waste Management's Sam Mangione (services) and Graeme Wallis, from Wallis Drilling (technology).

The judges said Mr Mangione was "setting new standards in recycling efficiency" while Mr Wallis had "demonstrated a can-do attitude towards continual innovation".

Former Aurora Oil & Gas chief executive Jon Stewart was recognised in the non-competitive categories, taking out the listed award, with PetRescue co-founders John Bishop and Vickie Davy jointly recognised in the social entrepreneur award and Jack Cowin named WA's champion of entrepreneurship.

The winners, apart from Mr Cowin, will represent WA at the national awards in November.
