Streisand does her bit for dry California

Superstar Barbra Streisand is giving her Malibu, California mansion an eco-friendly makeover to help conserve water use.

Residents in California are facing a summer of water rationing and bans because of an ongoing drought and Governor Jerry Brown ordered urban communities across the state to cut water use by 25 per cent over the next year.

Streisand is making plans to ensure she does her bit.

The Funny Girl singer/actress’ representative tells the New York Post, “(Streisand has) cut down her water usage by over 50 per cent ... and she is going to take further steps to conserve water.”

Star Trek veteran William Shatner recently went public with his idea to solve California’s drought issue, suggesting experts should build a huge pipeline from Seattle, Washington to the water-starved state. He is hoping to launch a Kickstarter.com campaign to crowdfund the project.
