Down and dirty fun a winner

As he stood back and watched his friends and children dodge the mud missiles, Brad Cuff was taken back to his childhood.

The mud fight that happened on their Moore River camping trip was one of the highlights of their stay for the Cuff family.

"I just find life with children has become very cleansed, we try to protect our kids and we don't like them getting dirty," Mr Cuff said.

"Just to see these children getting muddy and having an absolute blast reminded me of my childhood."

A photograph he took on the day, showing his friends and family covered in mud, has been named the major prize winner of an outdoor photography competition run by _The West Australian _ and Outdoors WA as part of Outdoors October.

Mr Cuff has won a Natureplay and Department of Sport and Recreation-hosted prize of a weekend at Bickley Outdoor Recreation Camp for up to 25 people - valued at $1500 - and a $200 voucher from Getaway Outdoors.

School teacher and kayaking instructor Simon Hunt, who captured a tranquil moment during an excursion to Exmouth, won the first runner-up prize of a two-hour kayaking lesson for up to six people at Ascot Kayak Club, including lunch at Riverside Kiosk.

A family photo showing Jennifer Wardle and her two children enjoying a mountain biking trip in the South West, taken by her husband Mark, has won the third prize of a place on a Star Trek from the Bibbulmun Track Foundation for four adults.
