Pair create colour at Baldivis centre walls

Internationally acclaimed contemporary artists Brad Eastman ‘Beast man’ and Kyle Hughes-Odgers have collaborated to create two original murals at Stockland Baldivis.

The walls at Stockland Baldivis have come alive with colour with the #wallsandmalls Public Art Project setting the scene for the centre's transformation.

Internationally acclaimed contemporary artists Brad Eastman and Kyle Hughes-Odgers have collaborated to curate the two original murals.

The works were produced across six days this month, breathing new life into the development set to be the suburb's retail, dining, and entertainment destination.

Stockland Baldivis development manager Prue Cunningham said the designs were "amazing".

"We wanted these murals to provide a unique focal point and point of difference that reflects young, vibrant culture that is growing in the local community - and they most certainly do," she said.

The two artists have different styles and have worked in the industry for the past 10 years.

Eastman said his style was bold and outlined, while Hughes' was more textured.

"We were given the theme of Connections: Uniting People, Place and Environment for this piece of work," he said. "Kyle and I have interpreted this together, but in our own distinctive ways.

"We are blending and abstracting our unique artistic styles together as one."

He said the mural told a story about community, the future, human interaction, growth and natural environments.

Hughes-Odgers said the meaning of the project was open to interpretation.

"As with all art, this mural is based on a concept or theme, but what people take away from it is purely up to them," he said.

The two artists hoped the Rockingham community would enjoy the new, colourful and permanent piece of public art created for them.

The 18-month, $116 million redevelopment of Stockland Baldivis Shopping Centre is now 50 per cent complete.
