Fun run shows its true colours

A record 19,000 powder-stained punters turned Langley Park into a sea of colour yesterday.

Dubbed the happiest 5km on the planet, those in Perth's third Swisse Color Run pelted each other with 8000kg of blue, green, yellow, pink and orange corn starch.

Among them was Penrhos College Year 11 Jessica Gregor, 17, who wanted to let her hair down ahead of a study lockdown. She begins her end-of-year exams next week.

"This was my one final fling," Jessica said. "I definitely embraced it. You want to get as much colour on you as you can."

Couple Matt Carnevale and Stella Pascolini, who moved from Rome last year, said the Swan River and city skyline were the perfect backdrop for the frivolities.

"It was amazing . . . though I had to take two showers afterwards," Mr Carnevale said.

Race director Woody Sedgman said unlike many sporting events, the run did not discriminate on age, sex or ability.

Money raised from selling water bottles goes to the Celebrate Life Foundation.
