Family and friends have paid tribute to a father of three whose body was found off Leighton Beach on Saturday.

Damien Mills boarded a charter boat cruise for about 30 mortgage brokers on Friday morning.

He contacted his family that afternoon via a text message but was not on the boat when it docked about 4pm.

About midday on Saturday, Mr Mills' body was found floating about 5.5km off Leighton Beach.

Police said there was no indication of criminality.

Mr Mills' wife Nicole told Nine News that she began to worry when she woke early on Saturday and her husband was not home.

"That's when the search began," she said.

"Damien didn't come home last night, where is he? Why did so many people walk on to a boat but one less walk off the boat and no one knows?"

Mrs Mills said if the charter company realised he was missing straight away, they could have searched for him and he might be alive today.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Mr Mills, a mortgage broker with Loan Market, was recently awarded a life membership at Kenwick Football Club.

The Queens Park Junior Football Club offered its condolences to Mr Mills' family: "Millsy was a strong part of the Bulldog family and could not do enough for the club from being a club sponsor, coaching (son) Jack's Auskick team to goal umpiring for the grade 4s."
