Parker beaten at Youth Olympics

UPDATE: West Australian Caitlin Parker will box off for a bronze medal at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, after she was beaten by Polish world champion Elzbieta Wojcik in their 75kg semifinal today.

Wojcik won by a 2-0 majority decision, with two judges giving it to the Pole and one scoring the bout a draw.

Parker faces Ireland's Christina Desmond tomorrow for the bronze medal. Unlike in senior tournaments where both losing semi-finalists get a bronze, there is just one awarded at the Youth Olympics.

The 18-year-old, who boxes out of the Fox's Den in Gosnells, reached the last four yesterday when she claimed a 3-0 unanimous points decision over American Martha Fabela in the quarter-final.
