Salvation Army volunteer attacked

A Salvation Army volunteer has allegedly been assaulted while working at a food van last night.

At 5.25pm the 52-year-old volunteer was working at Weld Square in Northbridge when he struck from behind with a metal pole.

He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital and recieved several stitches to a wound to his head.

The alleged offender fled on foot but was caught by police a short time later.

He was charged with Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court today.
