A man in a police pursuit last night allegedly threw a loaded shotgun out the window of a stolen vehicle before crashing into a garage.

Police say the chase started about 10pm when police spotted a stolen Mitsubishi Magna at traffic lights at Reid Highway and Mirrabooka Avenue.

Officers followed the vehicle along Benara Road, where the driver allegedly threw a loaded shotgun out the window.

The chase continued into Caversham. The driver lost control at the intersection of Grenache Crescent and Carignan Avenue and crashed into the garage of a house.

The alleged driver was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for medical treatment.

Police searched the vehicle and allegedly found 500 grams of cannabis under the driver's seat.

A 42-yeaer-old Beechboro man was charged with multiple driving, drug and firearm offences and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
