Rude cabaret brand appeals to fans

From the East End of London to the West End of Perth, deviant diva Bernadette Byrne and semi-moustachioed musician Victor Victoria are leading the overseas invasion of Fringe World.

The wicked comedy duo known as EastEnd Cabaret turned heads in Perth's King Street yesterday ahead of their opening night at Fringe World tomorrow.

They were a raucous hit at last year's fringe and were excited about kicking off Perth's month-long festival again.

"We had such an incredible time last year," said Byrne, whose entrance on a human chariot of audience members set the tone for the 2013 show at _The West Australian _Spiegeltent.

Byrne and Victoria (accordion and musical saw player Victoria Falconer-Pritchard) were keen to get a second taste of Perth's late-night audience participation.

"It is not about making fun of people," Byrne said. "It is all about us having a good time together. I am very happy to look foolish by myself."

Their rude brand of cabaret appealed to fans aged 18 to late 80s, she said.

Byrne could sense the excitement as venues popped up in the Cultural Centre and Northbridge's Russell Square, renamed the Pleasure Garden.

EastEnd Cabaret performs at _The West Australian _Spiegeltent in the Pleasure Garden until January 31. Fringe World runs until February 23.
