Trust issues split Edelstens

They were the colourful couple who became tabloid favourites during their four-year marriage but Brynne and Geoffrey Edelsten have pulled the plug on their relationship.

Arizona-raised socialite Brynne and medical multimillionaire Geoffrey were reportedly "blindsided" when New Idea magazine broke the shock news yesterday, with the pair said to be still coming to terms with the decision to part ways shortly before Christmas.

When they married in an extravagant $3 million celebration in 2010, the couple raised eyebrows for their 40-year age gap - Brynne is 30, Geoffrey is 70 - but the blonde went on to become a TV favourite, appearing on Dancing with the Stars, Celebrity Splash! and even scoring her own reality show.

However, cracks started to appear in the marriage in 2012 when police were sent to the couple's Melbourne penthouse following a domestic dispute and it was later alleged Geoffrey had an affair with an American model while overseas on business.

A source close to the couple told New Idea it was ultimately trust issues that caused the duo to call it quits on their marriage.

"They tried everything to make it work, including counselling," the friend said.

"But there were too many dramas and a whole host of issues that often left Brynne feeling publicly humiliated."

While the insider said Brynne could receive a multi-million dollar divorce settlement as the couple reportedly did not sign a prenuptial agreement, its looking likely that the blonde bombshell won't be walking away with a hefty payout given Geoffrey filed for bankruptcy in the US just last week.
