Singers join in voice

Long - standing Kununurra District High School music teacher and Kununurra Community Choir organiser Ed MacNeil was farewelled at the annual Music Under the Stars performance held at Mirima National park last Wednesday.

Mr MacNeil, who has run the community choir since 2004, also organised last week’s concert as part of the Ord Valley Muster.

He and his wife, Jenny Mac- Neil, will leave Kununurra at the end of the year.

In recognition of his contribution to East Kimberley choirs, the Kununurra Community Choir presented a signed and framed 2012 choir shirt.

The presentation was part of the overall concert, where district high school and St Joseph’s Primary School students performed alongside adult singers.

Crowds of people were bussed from the carpark by Triple J Tours to a location nestled in unique Kimberley bushland.

The district high school choir performed a mixture of classic and modern songs before leaving the stage to make room for St Joseph’s singers.

Later, the two schools sang together.

The Kununurra Community Choir, comprising mostly adults, then did an amazing rendition of the song Angels, best known from the Robbie Williams cover version.

In addition to the choirs, the concert included guitar performances from a district high school teacher and an Italian exchange student.

Hosts for the night were locals and twin sisters Gemma and Mandy Hayley, who did a great job entertaining the crowd between acts.
