The shocking moment man takes service dog from woman's yard

A woman recovering from a serious head injury claims someone has stolen her service dog.

Kayla DeHerrera, from Sheridan in the US state of Ohio, told KDVR her doberman Sky was taken from her home on May 22.

In a video shared with the station, a black SUV is seen outside the home with a man walking onto the property. Witnesses claim the dog later got into the car.

Without her dog, Ms DeHerrera’s life has turned upside down. She currently has a plate in her head and hardware in her jaw from an injury.

She has also started a GoFundMe page in the hopes of finding Sky.

“She is not just a service dog, she is my family,” Ms DeHerrera wrote.

“She not only helps me, she comforts me, helps with my depression and she recognises my seizures before they come or let's people know if I'm having one.”

She added eating and sleeping had proven difficult without her dog.

Ms DeHerrara is offering a A$650 reward for Sky’s return.

The dog’s theft has been reported to police.
