The West Australian Police have revived the 42 year old Anne Zappelli murder investigation following the release of new DNA technology to test the dress she was wearing.

Interest in the case was reignited following an investigation by Channel 7’s Sunday Night program earlier this year. The Zappelli family was contacted by police for the first time in 11 years with the news.

Zappelli, a Perth beauty queen contestant was raped and murdered in September 1969 aged 20. The case was never solved.

A 2001 inquest found evidence was lost in the original investigation by John Porter and his deputy Roy Stewart.

And, despite a deathbed confession by former suspect Norm Raisbeck on his and another suspect Thomas Craig’s involvement nearly two decades after the murder, neither were charged.

Craig denied the claims when tracked down by Sunday Night.
