Teens' egg-throwing prank ends in deadly crash

A teen has been charged with murder after an egg-throwing prank led to a fatal car crash.

The 14-year-old was behind the wheel of an SUV in Harris County, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon when another driver began chasing him.

The teen, who was in the SUV with 15-year-old and another teenager, had been egging other cars. They may have been spooked after investigators believe the other driver flashed a gun at them, ABC 11 reported.

The SUV ran a red light at nearly 100km/h and t-boned a ute killing the 45-year-old woman driving it.

That woman was identified as Silvia Zavala.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Ms Zavala had just been shopping and was “totally innocent”.

He said on Wednesday the teenage driver was booked in a juvenile detention centre on a murder charge, and police are seeking the driver of the other car which chased the teens.

The sheriff told Fox 10 the fact the teens were driving a car was “inexcusable”.

“They should never have been behind the wheel,” Sheriff Gonzalez told Fox 10.

“This is just a tragic situation and somebody lost their life.”

The driver and the 15-year-old passenger were hospitalised. The other teen in the SUV was OK.

Ms Zavala’s daughter Jessica Gaspar, 20, told news site Click2Houston her mum raised the family alone.

“She was a single mother, and she always taught me to stay strong and stay positive,” Ms Gaspar said.

The 20-year-old told KHOU 11 her mother’s last words.

“We gave each other the New Year’s hug and the last words was like, ‘Que dios nos me años juntos,'” Ms Gaspar said.

Ms Zavala’s last words translate to: “May god give us more years together.”

A GoFundMe page has been started to pay for the mum’s funeral costs.

It’s not known how the teens got access to the SUV.
