A teenage girl threw her premature baby out of a second-story window minutes after giving birth, according to US police.
The 16-year-old reportedly went into labor in the early hours of Friday morning (local time) and gave birth alone in her bedroom.
Police allege she then tossed the newborn out of the window, before telling her mother what had happened.
The woman ran outside, found the baby in the grass and called 911.
The teen then reportedly went into a panic after the unexpected birth.
Omaha police say they were called to the eastern Omaha apartment shortly after 4 am (local time), where they found a woman administering CPR to the infant.
The baby and 16-year-old were taken to Creighton University Medical Center, where the baby was pronounced dead.
Police say autopsy results are expected in several days, and that charges are pending.
Anthony Goode, 21, who lives in the building where the incident occurred told the Omaha World Herald that his girlfriend woke him up when she heard an ambulance and that he looked out a window to see two women and a medic carrying a baby to an ambulance.
“I saw one (of the women) saying ‘My baby, my baby,’ ” Goode said. “It was terrifying.”
Autopsy results are expected in a few days and charges are pending the results of the investigation, police said.
Police have not released the name of the teen and said they are not commenting further at this time.
