A teenage girl has been rushed to hospital after a suspected shark bite in southern WA.

The girl was attacked at Kelp Beds, Esperance on Sunday about 11.55am, according to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

The department is now investigating if she suffered a shark bite.

“DPIRD is working with local authorities and further information will be provided as it becomes available,” it said.

Surf Life Saving WA tweeted on Sunday a 3.3 metre white shark had been spotted at Kelp Beds while a second three-metre shark was seen at the same beach 100 metres off shore a few minutes earlier.

It is not immediately clear what her condition is but The West Australian, who identified the victim as a teenage girl, reported she travelled to Esperance Hospital by road and is expected to be flown to Perth for further treatment.

The attack took place in the same area where Laeticia Brouwer and Andrew Sharpe were fatally attacked by sharks.
