Seven tricks for longer iPhone battery life on iOS 11

With a huge number of iOS 11 users complaining of reduced battery life after Apple's recent update, we’ve taken a look at the seven best ways to get the most out of your iPhone’s precious battery.

It’s understood Apple are addressing initial bugs in their latest software and expect an update to correct them. Until then, these simple fixes will go a long way.

1. Figure out what's sucking your battery

Given how much your iPhone is capable of doing nowadays, the first point of action should be to determine exactly what is draining your power.

In Settings > Battery, you'll get an overview of how much battery power each app is using.

2. Turn off "Hey Siri"

You probably didn’t know it existed and if you did, you’ve almost certainly never used it.

Saying “Hey Siri” allows you to interact with Siri without having to touch your phone.

Having it on is just one more feature constantly running, serving very little purpose (if you don’t use it).

Settings > Siri > turn off listen for Hey Siri. Siri will still work using the home button.

3. Low Power Mode

It's name speaks for itself - Low Power Mode kicks in automatically when your battery is at 20 per cent or below. If you want to conserve battery sooner, you can activate it by going into Settings > Battery and switching Low Power Mode to 'on'.

It suspends background app refresh and automatic downloads.

4. Fix your auto-lock

Your iPhone sucks battery whenever the screen is lit up, even when you're not using it.

To decrease the amount of time it spends doing this, set your phone to auto-lock as frequently as you can tolerate.

5. Turn off background auto-refresh

Many apps are constantly refreshing and updating their content, even when you're not using them, which eats up battery power.

6. Turn off "Push" on your email accounts

There are two ways you can set your accounts to go about checking for new emails. They can "Push" (check and download in real time) or "Fetch" (check and download every 15 minutes or so).

"Fetch" uses less battery power because it pings the server less frequently.

Go to Settings > Accounts and Passwords > Fetch New Data and select "Fetch" for each account.

7. Charge on Airplane mode

While it might not help if you're not around a charging source, if you need a quick boost, putting your phone on airplane mode will reduce the time it takes to charge.

The reason? While your phone is in its regular mode, it's continually trying to signal cell towers and pinpoint your location.

When you switch to airplane mode, you turn off reception of those radio transmissions.
