'Harpooned whale': Facebook user applauded for reaction to revenge porn post

An Australian man has called out Facebook's lax community standards after it refused to remove a fat-shaming, revenge-porn image posted to a secret men's group.

The post allegedly showing a lewd act was shared to an unnamed male-only group with more than 14,500 members.

"What is the biggest whale that you have harpooned? I went through a tubby phase and landed this 130kg beast," the original post reads.

Offended by the nature of the post which had more than 200 likes and more than 100 comments – none in the woman's defence – Facebook user Hayden Brien reported the post to Facebook.

But Mr Brien was told the post did not breach Facebook's "community standards" and refused to remove it.

Infuriated, Mr Brien shared a censored screenshot of the post in the hope of goading Facebook into action.

"I bite my tongue over the daily misogynistic, racist, homophobic & generally uneducated posts in the group because hey, this is a safe space for the working class Aussie males," he wrote in his post.

"This however crosses the line in a very, very big way, and needs to be stopped immediately.

"Men's groups can be a great help to plenty of people going through tough times, but 'banter' is no excuse for this sort of behaviour."

Mr Brien said he could not understand how the post could remain live in the group for all to see.

"If you wanna share this and make Facebook take notice that’d be great cause I'm sick of every bloke on planet earth thinking we're some kind of master race and treating women as second rate human beings."

Mr Brien's backlash drew much praise for setting a good example for other young men to follow.

"I have a son and you have given me hope that there is other decent young men our there," wrote one user.

"Hayden, THANK YOU so much for standing up for what's right even when you know you'd cop s'''''' for it," said another user.

"I thought Facebook community standards were improving. Obviously not," they added.

Mr Brien refused to name the group in question.
