Sydney-based soldier found dead in Afghanistan

Sydney-based Special Forces soldier is believed to have died in a "non-combat related incident".

An Australian soldier has been killed in Kabul, the Chief of the Defence Force has confirmed.

The Special Forces soldier died from non combat gunshot wound.

"We will do all we can to support his family and colleagues in the days ahead," Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin told the media on Wednesday morning.

"He was a qualified, experienced and well respected Special Forces soldier."

It's understood the soldier was from Sydney.

His family has been informed, and do not wish to release his details.

The Defence Force says an investigation into the soldier's death is underway.
