'THIS IS NOT ON': Travellers clash over brazen smoking act at Sydney airport

An Aussie traveller has gone head-to-head with a group of smokers who he filmed at Sydney airport deliberately ignoring rules around smoking in public spaces.

The man hit out at Sydney Airport for allowing at least three men to smoke near a public entrance, despite a no smoking sign being present just metres from where they were standing.

"Come on Sydney Airport. What’s the point of a no smoking area if you just let these morons blow smoke in the public’s face?" he fumed on Twitter on Thursday.

"Not a security guard in sight. No doubt you’ve got cameras everywhere. Pick up your act"

The angry traveller filmed himself approaching one man who was seen puffing on a cigarette right outside one of the airport's exits.

"Would you put your cigarette out please? There's a no smoking sign right there," he said, to which the man responded: "No, I won't."

The camera then shows two other men, and while they aren't shown smoking, it appears as though they had just finished.

"I'm done man," one of them says.

The man filming the video called on Sydney airport to act by tagging them in the post along with NSW Health and police.

"This is not on, thanks for bringing it to our attention," Sydney Airport responded on Twitter.

"We will work with NSW Health to make sure people comply with smoking bans and are aware of designated smoking areas at the airport."

When contacted by Yahoo News Australia, a spokesperson for Sydney Airport said they had nothing further to add.

Smoking rules at Sydney airport

According to NSW legislation, it's an offence to smoke within four metres of a pedestrian entrance or exit of a public building.

NSW Health Inspectors are responsible for enforcement and can issue $550 fines to people who do not comply with the law, Sydney Airport outlines on their website.

There are designated smoking areas available outside terminals and smokers are prohibited from smoking in the marked smoke-free areas.
