Speeding Ferrari driver loses licence on Australia Day

A speeding Ferrari driver has been stripped of his licence and slammed with double demerit points after police caught him driving at double the speed limit on Australia Day.

The red sports car was caught travelling at 160 kilometres per hour on Taren Point Road, about 25 kilometres south of Sydney, at about 3pm on January 26.

NSW Police Force Traffic and Highway Patrol Command posted an image of the offending vehicle and speed tracking device as a warning to other drivers.

“The driver was issued a $2435 fine carrying 12 demerit points and had his license suspended for 6 months,” NSW Police Force Traffic and Highway Patrol Command posted on Sunday.

The driver was hit with double demerit points which affected NSW drivers over the Australia Day long weekend.

Social media users mocked the Ferrari driver whose flashy vehicle is priced in the hundreds of thousands.

“Should be able to afford an Opal card,” one Facebook user joked.

“If the driver can afford a Ferrari, pretty sure a $2435 fine isn’t going to cause much grief,” another person commented.
