ITV has released the first trailer for Sophie Turner's new series Joan.

The six-part drama will see the Game of Thrones star take on the role of real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington, focusing on her transformation from petty thief to criminal mastermind in the 1980s.

Ahead of Joan's premiere later this year, Turner took to Instagram on Tuesday (June 25) to release the teaser trailer for the upcoming series.

Captioned "Here she comes," the clip begins with Joan staring directly at the camera, before cutting to a montage of striking disguises she wears.

The trailer also provides a glimpse of Joan's young daughter, as well as teasing a high-speed car chase as she tries to escape the police.

Joan will premiere on ITV1 and streaming service ITVX in September, while in the US it will be available to watch on The CW.

Created by The Essex Serpent's Anna Symon, the series will chart Hannington's life, starting in her twenties as a "fiery, uncompromising, and intoxicating character" who had a troubled childhood.

When Joan's first husband goes on the run, she takes an opportunity to leave her old life behind and secure a new life for her young daughter.

"Making full use of her sharp intelligence, charm, and her talent for impersonation and performance, we follow the twists and turns in Joan's life, the ups and downs, the heartache and the joy, which makes her story a compelling television drama," a synopsis for Joan adds.

Speaking about her role upon the show's announcement, Turner said: "I'm so excited to be bringing Joan Hannington's fascinating life story to screen in Joan.

"She is one of the most notorious figures in the criminal underworld of London, earning her the nickname 'The Godmother'.

"A woman who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all whilst trying to get her daughter back from social services, we see a mother in despair swept up in the exhilarating world of crime."

Joan also stars The Essex Serpent's Frank Dillane, Harlots' Kirsty J Curtis, Top Boy's Gershwyn Eustache Jnr and Gavin & Stacey's Laura Aikman.

Joan will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX in September, while in the US it will be available to watch on The CW.
