'Snakes on a Plane' turns real on AirAsia flight

A plane was forced to make an emergency landing last week after passengers spotted a snake slithering in the overhead lights.

A video of the snake’s silhouette wiggling above passengers’ heads has been posted to TikTok, attracting thousands of comments from shocked viewers.

The incident occurred on Thursday on board an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau in Malaysia, the airline confirmed to CNN Turkey on Monday.

After being alerted about the snake, the plane’s pilot made an emergency landing in Kuching, before continuing on to Tawau.

“AirAsia is aware of the incident that occurred on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau on Thursday,” AirAsia's chief security officer Liong Tien Ling told the publication.

“As soon as the captain was notified, the plane was diverted to Kuching to be disinfected.”

Mr Ling told Channel News Asia none of the passengers or crew members were at risk.

“This is a very rare incident which can occur on any aircraft from time to time,” he said.

“The captain took the appropriate action.

“At no time was the safety of guests or crew at any risk.”

TikTok users: ‘Snakes on a plane is real’

TikTok users have the flooded footage of the snake with comments likening it to the 2006 Samuel L. Jackson movie ‘Snakes on a Plane’.

“Snakes on a plane is real,” one person said.

“This is a real snake on a plane. Where is Samuel L. Jackson?” another wrote.

“New fear unlocked,” a woman said.

“I saw this in a movie before and it didn’t end well,” a man commented.

“The real nightmare,” another person wrote.
