Snake catcher bitten while responding to terrifying callout

A snake catcher in Queensland has been bitten while responding to a terrifying call-out.

Tony Harrison was called to a home in Bilinga on the Gold Coast on Wednesday about 8pm.

The owner of the home had reported rumblings from the roof.

When Mr Harrison investigated, he found five carpet pythons trapped in the ceiling.

Video posted to Facebook shows him retrieving the serpents through a tight gap in the roof cavity.

One snake can be seen wrapping itself around his wrist several times.

A woman can be heard in the backyard saying: “Bit you on the hand? Is she the big one?”

It wasn’t a quick job either – retrieving the five snakes took almost an hour to complete.

It’s snake mating season, so the video posted to Facebook elicited several bemused responses.

“I’d probably bite you too if you disturbed me while I was having cuddles with 4 girls,” one person wrote.

Another person didn’t seem too impressed by the snake bite.

“The roof beams and your gate are more hazardous!”, he wrote.

Ceilings aren’t the only places where you’re likely to find snakes, however.

A snake catcher who pulled a python out of a toilet has warned others to always look before you sit after one Cairns resident encountered a slithery surprise when she went to the loo.

David Walton, who runs Cairns Snake Removals in North Queensland, advised people to “always check before you sit down”.
