Snags, dogs and placards: How Aussies spent the 2019 Federal Election

Election day is upon us with our nation’s leaders tucking into democracy sausages and using it as their last opportunity to campaign.

Opposition leader Bill Shorten has cast his vote in Melbourne while Prime Minister Scott Morrison spent the morning in Tasmania before returning to Sydney to vote in his local electorate.

A number of voters have dressed down for the occasion, with some filling out their ballots in towels and swimwear.

Polling booths opened at 9am and will close at 6pm on Saturday.
