Shocking discovery after driver found lying next to truck off Aussie highway

A scuffle captured on bodycam broke out when police tried to arrest the man found lying next to his truck with an empty liquor bottle.

An Aussie truckie has been charged with a string of offences after he was allegedly found in a drunk state flat on the ground next to his B-double semi-trailer, with an empty bottle of bourbon lying just beside him.

The Queensland man, from Mango Hill, was found by police on Tuesday resting on the ground along the Dreamworld Parkway in Coomera — metres from the theme park — and he allegedly blew a whopping 0.311 per cent blood-alcohol reading.

The man is also accused of resisting officers when they tried to apprehend him, with bodycam footage appearing to show the 44-year-old, who was noticeably wobbly on his feet, rebuffing officers' attempts to place him in cuffs.

In Queensland, drivers responsible for trucks with a gross vehicle mass of 4.5 tonnes must have a zero alcohol limit. In the video, a brief scuffle unfurls with officers eventually managing to subdue the man.

"Have you been drinking today?" one of the officers asks the man. "Is that an empty vodka bottle over there?" he continued, pointing to an empty bottle of Wild Turkey bourbon.

The man was later taken to Southport Watchhouse, where he was charged with one count each of being in charge of a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and obstructing police. He is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on January 10.

The Mango Hill man had his licence immediately suspended and police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam vision to contact investigators without delay.
