Shocking dashcam footage shows pedestrian hit by car

WARNING, DISTRESSING IMAGES: Heartstopping dashcam footage has captured the moment a pedestrian was hit by car in Melbourne’s CBD.

The incident, which took place at Southbank on Wednesday morning, shows a car approaching an intersection as the lights switch from green to amber.

As the vehicle drives into the intersection, a pedestrian suddenly runs onto the road from the right side of the screen.

Other vehicles on the road appear to have obstructed the view of both the driver and the pedestrian, leaving little time to react.

The driver slams on the brakes, but it’s too late – the pedestrian collides with the car and is flung on to the road where he lies still, face down.

The driver of the car can be seen getting out of the vehicle as another pedestrian runs over to help.

The video was uploaded to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page, where the caption states the man is recovering in hospital with broken ribs.

It’s believed he was crossing the road while the crossing light was red.

Paramedics were called to the scene and took the man, aged in his 30s to Alfred Hospital.

A Victoria Ambulance spokesperson told Yahoo7 the man was in a serious but stable condition, suffering injuries to his chest.

Yahoo7 have contacted Victoria Police for an update on the matter.

A spokeswoman for the Alfred Hospital has said the man is in a stable condition.
