'Shameless' Airbnb rental lets you sleep on the floor for $300

The room is being likened to that of a blanket fort.

A "laughable" Airbnb listing in Sydney's east is offering a mattress on the living room floor for more than $300, highlighting just how grim the city's living crisis has become.

Described as a 'RARE Spacious Living Room near CBD' in a Waterloo Meriton apartment, the "affordable opportunity" is said to be fit for someone who "can sleep on every conditions [sic]".

Comprised of makeshift partition walls, the narrow room for rent features a "high-quality mattress" on the floor, a wardrobe, and bedside table. The "spacious furnished bedroom in the living room" sits right next to the dining table.

It reportedly costs $300 for a minimum of four nights, and although the Airbnb listing has since been deleted, it's still up on one other site.

"Live with other professional and mature tenants in the modern apartment equipped with gym, pools and sauna," the listing says. "Your privacy is just like in a normal room, except the partition wall does not reach the ceiling. You will be sharing the house with five other people and full kitchen facility is available.

"You can have the whole the house for yourself in weekdays from 8.30am-6pm as everybody is at work. Please bear in mind that my other flatmate uses the TV in the living room few times a week from 7pm to 9.30pm."

'This is so sad'

The dire listing has left people questioning the host's audacity and has attracted almost 250 comments on Reddit. "Jesus, how little shame must you have to think something like this is even remotely appropriate?" one person said.

"Wow shameless," another agreed. The makeshift walls were especially criticised. "At least Harry Potter’s room under the stairs had an actual door!" one person wrote.

"You can rent out a cubby house made from blankets? I wonder how much my son's cardboard fort will rent for?" another joked.
