Schools sign agreement to strengthen ties

Mount Tarcoola Primary School and partner school SD Negeri 4 Wates put pen to paper to cement their dedication to each other and the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Project.

The two schools signed a Memorandum of Agreement, signalling a strengthening of their relationship.

The visit to Wates was a reciprocal visit, following the visit to Geraldton by SD Negeri 4 Wates teachers Ibu Arni and Ibu Sutarjilah in March this year.

Head of Education Kulon Progo District Ibu Sri Mulatsih said the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was an extraordinary moment.

“I very much support this education co-operation,” representative Bapak Sarjana said at the ceremony.

“I believe the partner relationship between the schools can improve co-operation, create friendship and develop students through language, art, culture, and ICT.”

SD Negeri 4 Wates principal Bapak Teguh said the school and the quality of student education had benefi ted from the program.

He said he hoped this would continue now the commitment had been made.

“Hopefully in the future the partnership remains stable with the establishment of good communication between the two schools through both electronic media and social media so it can bring benefi ts for students in the educational world and in general,” he said.

Mount Tarcoola Primary School Indonesian teacher Ibu Purba-Barnard said the signing of the document was just one step out of a joint journey.

“I am hoping that this partnership will encourage and motivate us to develop a better intercultural understanding, knowledge and skills,” she said.

“The differences between us will enrich our students and provide opportunities to learn from each other.”

What the Memorandum of Agreement states:

- to develop an educational partnership between both schools which promotes friendship and understanding between the two schools. This will be done through co-operation in cross-curricular areas, as well as teacher and student exchange where possible.

- to develop intercultural understanding among staff in both schools.

- to provide staff with opportunities to develop their language skills.

- to share ideas and resources for teaching and learning.
